The DDM and PDM control and integrate many functions and features of the vehicle through both hard wired outputs and messages over the PCI data bus. The PDM also receives inputs through an integral Radio Frequency (RF) Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) receiver. The DDM and PDM each utilize integrated circuitry and information carried on the Programmable Communications Interface (PCI) data bus network along with many hard wired inputs to monitor many sensor and switch inputs throughout the vehicle. Looking through the service information I also come across this- I underlined the important tidbit of information. Both the DDM ( Drivers door Module) and PDM ( Passenger Door Module) share a common power and ground feed as well. It is a peer to peer network meaning that any module on the network has the ability to communicate on it's own. It is very much like GM's Class 2 data buss. The system utilizes door modules in each door that communicate through a data buss called PCI ( Programmable Controller Interface) buss. I have a 2004 Jeep Cherokee that the windows wouldn't lock. Now, dealing with 1997 Grand Cherokee driver's door will only. Signed a Severely frustrated Shop Teacher.Passanger windows and locks. His neighbor said that the module could need programming. The fuses in the passenger junction seem to be ok. I did a search and saw that there is a broken wire problem on some grands so I will be checking the wiring harness on monday. Replaced it and now nothing works from the drivers side, no locks, mirrors windows etc. We decided the module was more than likely broken as it had relays sticking and other things. I applied power direct to the motors and they work fine, as well as I have confirmed that the module itself is getting 8.5 volts. but neither the power door locks, drivers front and rear windows would go down or up. Here is the problem, The mirrors use to adjust, and the passenger windows would go up and down with the drivers module. It is an USA model, 96 grand with all the power options as far as I can tell, v8 etc etc. We need to fix one last thing before we can take it down to get inspected. I am an autoshop teacher and I have a student in the shop with a 96 Grand Cherokee.
